The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is set to introduce capital expenditure-based subsidies to catalyze domestic polysilicon manufacturing. Aligned with India's energy security goals, the government aims to establish at least 30 GW of capacity by 2030, a scale MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi notes is ideal for national requirements. Because polysilicon is a fundamental raw material for solar cells, the proposed subsidies and estimated investments of Rs 850 crore per GW will help build a robust, fully integrated domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem.
